New Equipment Assembly Manager

Steensma Lawn & Power is a growing family-owned business specializing in equipment sales and service for the Lawn & Garden industry in Southwest Michigan. We are currently looking to fill a New Equipment Assembly Manager position at our Kalamazoo location.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and mentor the New Equipment Assembly team to ensure high-quality, efficient assembly of all new equipment
  • Oversee the full process of assembling, inspecting, testing, and cleaning new equipment before customer delivery
  • Coordinate equipment pickup, delivery, and customer handoff, including scheduling and route management
  • Personally deliver and demonstrate equipment use and safety features to customers when needed, while ensuring the entire team maintains professional standards
  • Assist customers with loading/unloading and provide excellent customer service during deliveries
  • Maintain strong communication with sales, service, and parts departments to ensure smooth workflow and timely equipment readiness
  • Implement and enforce quality control standards, checklists, and procedures to achieve perfection-driven results
  • Manage inventory of assembly parts, tools, and supplies; work with vendors as needed
  • Train and develop team members on proper assembly techniques, safety protocols, and customer interaction standards
  • Assist other departments and teams with various tasks as business needs require
  • Monitor and maintain a clean, safe, and organized assembly area
  • Track team performance, attendance, and productivity; conduct regular performance reviews

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience (minimum 2+ years preferred)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with mechanical, automotive, or small engine equipment
  • Excellent customer service and professional communication skills
  • Positive attitude, reliable, and highly team-oriented
  • Perfection-driven with strong attention to detail and quality focus
  • Ability to motivate and develop a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Clean driving record and valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass MDOT Physical and eligible for Chauffer License
  • Experience in the lawn & garden, powersports, or heavy equipment industry is a strong plus

Working Conditions

  • Position requires a mix of hands-on assembly work and managerial oversight
  • Frequent standing for extended periods, walking, and bending
  • Regular lifting of 60lbs or more
  • Up to 2–4 hours per day in a company vehicle for deliveries and customer support
  • Shop and outdoor environment (subject to weather conditions during deliveries)
